Abstract
This report discusses a Crank-Nicolson type of finite difference formulation for the problem of transient temperature distribution in a uniform cylindrical pipe with external insulation and containing a fluid for which temperature, pressure, and flow rate are given as functions of time. All material properties are assumed to depend on temperature. Discussion is also given of a digital computer program which implements this formulation. This implementation incorporates properties of superheated steam, the internal fluid, and of 2-1/4 Cr 1 Mo (P22), the pipe material. Stress calculations are also treated. (Author)
