Abstract
NALCOMIS has been conceived as a modern management information system which
will provide for effective and efficient execution of the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program
(NAMP) by providing aviation maintenance and material managers with timely, accurate
and complete maintenance and material information.
Although NALCOMIS basically provides for improved mechanization (computerization)
of the existing Naval Aviation Maintenance Program, some functional responsibilitities
may change when NALCOMIS is implemented.
The analysis function is one of those areas where change of responsibility can be expected.
Analysts now perform certain functions generally in accordance with OPNAVINST
4790.2B requirements. When NALCOMIS is implemented, some of their specific responsibilities
will be deleted and other responsibilities would or should be added. Exactly what
the new role of the Analyst would be under NALCOMIS is a question which should be considered
carefully and in-depth. Identification and implementation of required changes in
the Analyst's functional responsibilities should commence now in order to meet the demands
on the MIS when NALCOMIS is implemented.
