Abstract
This thesis examines the relationship between development unit cost and production unit cost. Historical data from seven armored tracked vehicle programs is used to test the relationship. A study of this relationship is useful when production has not begun and the estimator wants a means to estimate production costs. Using data from the seven programs, parametric estimating techniques are used toe examine the relationship between production cost and selected independent variables to determine which provide the best estimators of cost. The data is examined for both disjoint and sequential learning curve theories. The resulting cost estimating relationships (CERs) for each model are explained in terms of how the respective model measure development unit cost and production unit cost. The final CERs provide insight into Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle (AAAV) production cost and possible acquisition strategies.
