Abstract
This research builds upon the emerging body of knowledge on procurement and contract management process maturity assessments. In 2007, a team of graduate students at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) conducted an assessment of the procurement processes at two major U.S. Air Force logistics centers. The assessments were conducted using the Contract Management Maturity Model (CMMM). The purpose of this paper is to use these combined procurement process assessment results to characterize the current state of practice of contract management at these two logistics centers and also within the Air Force logistics community. This paper summarizes the assessment ratings, analyzes the assessment results in terms of contract management process maturity, discusses the implications of these assessment results for process improvement and knowledge management opportunities, and provides insight on consistencies and trends in these assessment results to federal government contract management.
