This thesis reflects the ongoing debate on Innere Führung and questions whether the principle is outdated, or how it is still of value for the Bundeswehr and Germany. After pointing out factors of internal instability for Germany and its society, vulnerable elements and threats to the core values of German citizenship are explained. The thesis further makes obvious how a strong level of resilience is necessary by presenting the fact of hybrid war threats, especially Russian information operations. Psychology serves as a means to explain why and how such methods of persuasion can be used in general. In order to develop and maintain a strong level of resilience against current internal and external threats, the thesis presents a way out of this dilemma by simplifying core elements of Innere Führung through the EDEN-Principle. This principle focuses on the development, practical implementation, and maintenance of democratic norms and an ethos of the soldier, based on the core values of citizenship.en_US
