Abstract
A dynamic model of a multicomponent-multistage distillation column with variable holdup and boundary lags is developed, and the programming for digital simulation is presented. The open loop transient responses for the model undergoing feed composition disturbances and reflux change are studied. These responses are then used for synthesizing transfer functions and closing the loop for digital control of the overhead product using a variable reflux rate.
