| dc.description.abstract | This thesis focuses on developing a spreadsheet decision support model that can be used by combat engineer platoon and company commanders in determining the material requirements and estimated costs associated with military training exercises. The model combines the business practice of Material Requirements Planning and the commercial spreadsheet software capabilities of Lotus 1-2-3 to calculate the requirements for food, consumable supplies, petroleum products, and major end items of equipment. The demand for these materials are directly dependent on the quantities of personnel and equipment items to participate in the training exercise. The model takes into consideration existing on hand and on order supplies and materials, and the anticipated effects of lead times, in determining the net requirement and time period an item must be placed on order to ensure its availability for the training exercise. The capability of this model to enhance planning through what if analysis and the investigation of variability and stochastic influence on the model is also explored.
