This paper analyzes the problem of tracking targets in noisy conditions. First a basic background is provided. That includes general concepts from estimation theory and a specific description of the Kalman filter and its use for treating the various aspects of the target tracking problem. Then progressively more difficult situations of target tracking examples are simulated and the results are analyzed and compared with the literature.
