Abstract
Current and magnetic field distributions for thin cylindrical films were derived. Electroplated films of tin were produced and tested. The tests were conducted with and without an external magnetic field parallel to the cylinder axis. In the absence of an external field the critical current varied as the square of the temperature difference below the transition temperature. The latter varied widely but was always less than the bulk value for very thin specimens. The critical external field increased with temperature, in contrast to the well-established behavior of the critical field of bulk tin, which decreases with temperature.
