Abstract
Concern over the growing drug smuggling problem and improved national defense capability is manifest in the need for a new forward looking airborne radar (FLAR) for Coast Guard HC-130 aircraft, with a capability of detecting a target of 1 square meter radar cross section. This thesis reexamines the analysis that selected the AN/APS-134 FLAR performance over other contenders based on mission need, radar performance and life cycle cost criteria. This thesis presents a better understanding of the resulting HC-130 force structure based on the impact of FLAR technology.
