Abstract
The chaotic pendulum looks random when you see it in action. But truth be told, a chaotic pendulum is considered deterministic. Deterministic means you'll get the exact same result every time if the starting conditions are exactly the same, every time. The tricky part is nailing down the initial (starting) conditions so they are exactly the same, every time. The hallmark to chaos is it's EXTREME sensitivity to initial conditions. Dr. Denardo, physics professor at the naval postgraduate school gives a chaotic pendulum demo to local MAOS students.
