Abstract
This thesis extends the development of the AirLand Research Model (ALARM), an on-going research effort at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS), in the areas of maneuver unit allocation and countermobility planning at the battalion level. The feasibility and desirability of multiple algorithms to determine enemy avenues of approaches into a battalion sector and to select the optimal position along the avenue for unit placement is demonstrated. The concept of analyzing terrain on the basis of. flow rate, the ability to through-put a deployed attacker, is investigated. An algorithm linking unit placement and counter-mobility operations is developed. Additionally, shortcomings noted in ALARM by previous research are resolved. These developments have been coded into SIMSCRIPT and integrated into the existing model on the VAX 11/780 at NPS. .
