Abstract
An investigation of a method for finding an optimum compensator for use in an autopilot is described. Given a structure with a number of real poles and zeros which is steady-state
decoupled, the pole-zero locations are chosen to give a system response as close as possible to a desired response. The desired response can be any one or a combination of system outputs. The computer is used to optimize the pole-zero locations by means of a function minimization program.
