Abstract
The thesis aims to translate the original analog version of the wargame, “A CRISIS Exists,” into a digital platform to evaluate for experiential learning effect. The study researches two main areas by evaluating changes in decisions made by participants in targeted situations throughout a wargame playthrough and surveying their sentiment toward aspects related to its programming. Conducting research in this field allows the researcher to answer two questions. First, can an introductory exposure to a logistics-based digital wargame increase a player’s propensity to make sustainment-oriented principled decisions? Second, what factors and design components in a digitally simulated wargame do users favor as enablers of experiential learning? The researcher hypothesized that there would be an observable and significant increase in the players’ propensity to make sustainment-oriented principled decisions. The result of the study reflects an observable increase in the average principled decision scores among participants, but that increase lacked statistical significance and thus cannot be substantiated. The study did reveal that participants most favor the software’s implementation of visual graphics. The average results suggest that the visual graphics helped players understand the systems in place and were subsequently favored. The research concludes that multiple iterative exposures to the wargame could produce more significant results.
