Abstract
This study was conducted to determine if an expert system could be designed to assist the afloat Supply Officer in considering space constraints when developing a deployment loadplan. Forecasting and Operations Research Models are used in the development of the expert system and adapted, as necessary to accommodate supply management afloat. Procedures for determining net stowage capacity and material configuration were reviewed to provide the user with an understanding of how to effectively utilize the expert system for developing a loadplan. The expert system includes a series of LOTUS 12 3 spreadsheets to be used in conjunction with the Military Traffic Management Command's Computerized Deployment System (CODES). The study concludes that the use of an expert system would provide valuable assistance to the afloat Supply Officer and recommends further research to establish the CODES interface.
