Description
The Naval Postgraduate School Foundation was awarded a generous grant in the amount of $11,980.00 from the Thomas Doud, Sr. and Anita M. Doud Fund I of the Community Foundation of Monterey. The grant’s intent was to stabilize the Arizona garden in a collaborative effort between NPS and the Monterey Community and generate a feasibility report regarding returning the Arizona Garden to the original design created by noted 19th Century landscape botanist Rudolf Ulrich. We quickly learned that there were other goals that weighed equally as important: (a) stabilize the cacti and succulents currently in the Arizona Garden (b) generate a report determining feasibility of returning the Historic Arizona Garden to its original design and intent, and (c) increase community involvement and participation in the garden maintenance and restoration.
