Abstract
The object of this thesis is the design and construction of an analog computer primarily for the investigation of torsional vibrations in marine geared propulsion systems. The computing sections have been build, utilizing the George A. Philbrick Researches Co. K2-W plug-in operational amplifiers as the basic computing elements. Provision has been made for the easy addition of resent and initial condition setting circuits so that the computer as built may be converted, with a minimum of labor, into a general purpose d-c analog computer suitable for the solution of a wide range of physical problems. By means of simple voltage measurements at appropriate points resonant frequencies and values of torque amplification may be readily obtained. The effects of variations in system constants may be observed by merely changing coefficient settings on the computer. Before the computer which has been built may be place in operation, it will be necessary to design and construct a well regulated, heavy duty power supply.
