Abstract
Sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies on the daily synoptic time
scale from National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration/National
Environmental Satellite Service (NOAA/NESS) Global Operational SST Computation
(GOSSTCOMP) data in the Eastern South Pacific are compared to
deviations of similar time scale from the means of both the wind stress
curl and the friction velocity cubed as derived from Fleet Numerical
Weather Central's (FNWC) mercator global band surface wind field.
Example patterns of those variables as well as mean and unaltered fields
are presented here. High correlations between the sea surface temperature
deviations and the deviations of wind stress curl and friction
velocity cubed were not attained at any log, owing largely to the
paucity and poor quality of surface wind and satellite data. Further
investigation is needed.
