Abstract
The movement of combat units and support elements from bases in the United States to a combat area overseas requires the utilization of scarce
transportation resources. A movement plan is a tentative allocation of
resources t o each shipment in the deploying force . Its value lies in t he
fact that it provides decision makers with a guide for issuing movement
orders for units, supplies, and transportation resources. Note that t he
movement plan is a simulation of a potential deployment. It does not have
the authority of a movement order and it is used primarily to test the feasibility of providing the required transportation resources in support of an
area contingency plan.
