Abstract
Jordan has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to maintain internal stability despite being surrounded by regional conflict, economic strain, and persistent security threats. This thesis investigates how Jordan has remained resilient in the face of these challenges, focusing on two central pillars: a longstanding strategic partnership with the United States and a proactive, multi-layered counterterrorism strategy. This research explores how Jordan has managed to navigate waves of regional instability without succumbing to the political forces that have destabilized many of its neighbors. Drawing on qualitative analysis and academic, governmental, and policy sources, the study demonstrates how U.S. economic aid, military cooperation, and diplomatic engagement have played a crucial role in reinforcing Jordan’s political and institutional capacity. At the same time, Jordan’s own domestic strategies—ranging from legal and military responses to social and ideological initiatives—have allowed it to contain extremist threats and address the sources of unrest. Together, these external and internal factors have created a model of state resilience in a volatile region. The findings offer important lessons for scholars and policymakers seeking to understand how small, resource-constrained states can preserve stability in the midst of regional crises.
