Abstract
Imbedding position information in the data surface of disk memory systems does not allow velocity information and the position data is discrete. A single servo positioning system is studied for both seek and track follow modes, with combinations of current and voltage amplifiers along with analog and digital compensators. The system is controlled by means of a curve command scheme chosen from several that are investigated. The problems of sampling rate and non-linearity in the motor force are included, with a certain degree of approximation. Computer simulation is used to analyze the system. Finally, three different servos are designed, that meet the specifications.
