Abstract
The pressure averaging of different pneumatic impact probes was investigated using a periodic flow generator in order to establish corrections for probe measurements made in a compressor, and to guide the selection of probe geometries to be used in the compressor. The Kulite transducer probe used as a reference in these measurements was also used, with both continuous and synchronized sampling, to measure the flow from the compressor rotor. It v/as concluded that the corrections required to be made to the pneumatic impact pressure measurements were negligible at 50% design speed, but might be significant at higher speeds if the probe system volume were not properly sized.
