Abstract
This study developed a system modeling language (SysML) nanogrid model and corresponding graphical user interface (GUI) within the Magic Systems of Systems Architect (MSOSA) software for users not necessarily familiar with SysML or MSOSA to simulate and analyze various nanogrid configurations that closely mimic real-world systems. Using model-based system engineering diagrams, this study's model and GUI simulate various nanogrid components (batteries, photovoltaics, fuel-fed generators, and wind turbines) to analyze their effects on the overall endurance of nanogrid systems operating in island-mode. The GUI gives users the ability to easily select three different types of generation devices or precisely input specifications on different components to construct a specific nanogrid system to analyze for endurance in relation to costs. The GUI can be used to set nanogrid configurations that mimic real-world systems and facilitate cost vs endurance trade-off studies of limited nanogrid configurations.
