Abstract
This thesis examines how atmospheric conditions influence the performance of radar and Electronic Warfare systems. Of particular interest is the frequency of occurrence of various types of ducts in the Arabian Sea which is presented. Potential tactical advantage through better knowledge of ducting conditions is also examined. EREPS and IREPS, PC based programs for evaluating the atmospheric effects on radio systems, are addressed. An application of the above is the Airborne Microwave Refractometer (AMR) installed in an aircraft which samples the above conditions and provide an assessment of the meteorological profile of the atmosphere. The proposed installation in Pakistan Navy P-3C is discussed.
