Description
Naval Postgraduate School students and faculty received a broad range of outstanding achievement and public service awards at the Summer Quarter Awards Ceremony in King Hall, Sept. 12. Leading the ceremony was Dean of Students Cmdr. Debbie Monroe. The Department of the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award was a first, never before presented as part of a graduation ceremony. Vice Adm. Roger Bacon (ret.) received the historic honor. The Monterey Council Navy League award for highest Academic Achivement, the school's top student academic award, was presented to "triple crown" winner Lt. Cmdr. Jason A. Bridges. Bridges also received the prestigious Chief of Naval Operations Award for Excellence in Operations Research (OR) and the Military Operations Research Society Stephen A. Teasdale Graduate Research Award. Not coincidentally, the top award for faculty instruction, the Richard W. Hamming Teaching Award, went to Bridges' thesis adviser, Operations Research Prof. Robert Dell. Dell guided Bridges' research on optimizing the routing and coordination of airlift routes in theater.
