Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine the problem solving behaviors of novice systems analysts during the design process. Using protocol analysis, this research found that novice analysts like their expert counterparts used an iterative problem solving process. However, unlike expert analysts, they exhibited typical working behavior that tended to focus directly on the task at hand while overlooking larger but pertinent issues.
