Abstract
The development of high speed computing devices
and the perfection of matrix methods has made it possible
to perform quantitative analysis of the vibration
characteristics of complex piping systems. Such analyses
require the use of accurate input data, such as distributed
mass and flexural rigidity.
In this study experiment was compared with theory
in a free-free beam configuration in order to assess
the confidence that can be attached to values of
flexural rigidity and mass distribution calculated
from tabulated and actual dimensional and weight data.
In addition, data was obtained to assess the damping
characteristics.
