Abstract
This work investigates the use of phased array radar that performs beamsteering to detect and track targets in three-dimensional space with various target scenarios and trajectories. Moreover, two modes are available depending on the number of antenna elements employed: standard and high resolution modes. Kalman filter (KF) based tracking is used. However, two KF trackers with reduced dimensionality are used instead of a single full-blown 3-D KF tracker to reduce complexity and calculations. Tracking performance is evaluated via root square error (RSE) for a single experiment while root mean square error (RMSE) performance curves are calculated via Monte Carlo simulation using the Matlab code developed in this work. Additionally, based on some features of the targets in the scenarios, a feature-based classification method is briefly discussed.
