An admiral who was one of the Navy's staunchest advocates for officer graduate education, particularly Naval Postgraduate School programs, was laid to rest March 8 following a memorial service at the Naval Academy chapel. Vice Adm. Joseph Metcalf, III, a 1964 NPS operations research (OR) alumnus, was honored by Chief of Naval Operations and fellow OR alumnus Adm. Michael Mullen. Mullen praised Metcalf for leading "a naval rennaissance, an enormous leap forward in technology and tactics that brought us the AEGIS weapons system (and) the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer."en_US
