| dc.description.abstract | Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is an important public health concern in the United States, particularly as service members return home from the combat operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, and other locations in service of Operations Enduring Freedom and Iraqi Freedom (OEF/OIF) and Operation New Dawn (OND). According to the U.S. House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, more than 2 million service members have served at least one tour of duty (U.S. House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, March 18, 2010). Longer deployments and more redeployments place considerable strain on health care systems in terms of care for military personnel with mild TBI (mTBI), as well as posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). | en_US |
