Abstract
A computer simulation study of the effect of a thermalized target lattice on the ranges of irradiating ions has been made. The calculations are in good agreement with experimental results. The work is a continuation in the development of a computer model formulated at the USNPGS which takes into consideration the displacement of atoms in the target lattice as well as inelastic energy losses by the primary ion. The simulation was done for a Xenon ion striking the (100) face of a tungsten target. This thesis attempts to establish the relative importance of thermal and inelastic effects in the n-body model.
