dc.description.abstractThis thesis presents the results of a statistical analysis conducted on active duty Navy bankruptcy cases filed in 1991 at the Jacksonville, Florida and San Diego, California bankruptcy courts. Results are presented for over 60 variables which were analyzed for the 96 active duty Navy bankruptcy cases in the sample. In addition, it provides a detailed explanation of the processes involved in filing Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy. The results of the analysis indicate that active duty Navy personnel in Jacksonville and San Diego file bankruptcy more often than the civilian population. In addition, active duty Navy personnel are filing bankruptcy with a significantly lower debt burden than civilians who file bankruptcy. The results also indicate that there is little difference between the financial conditions of sailors who file bankruptcy in Jacksonville and San Diego.en_US
