Abstract
CNA will research the role of nuclear weapons and nuclear signaling in the 1973 Yom Kippur War. Particular attention will be paid to why Israel and the U.S. relied on nuclear alerts and who the alerts intended audiences were. Given the importance of nuclear alerts in crisis bargaining, this analysis will highlight the opportunities and dangers inherent in the use of such alerts.
