Abstract
Charge depletion is considered for negatively charged particles flowing with a dielectric medium (air). The problem is representative of those encountered in electrogasdynamic devices. A mechanism is proposed wherein electrons are depleted from the particles by the formation of 0i· These ions, being some 100 times more mobile than the particles, are essentially lost from the flow because of their high slip. Axisymmetric jets mixing with ambient air are investigated, and a computer program is used to solve the combined Poisson/Laplace equations. Results ranging from no-charge depletion to total depletion are presented.
