Abstract
An experimental apparatus was designed and constructed for the purpose of determining dropwise condensation heat transfer coefficients on condensing surfaces of different thickness. The equipment included a completely self contained condensing chamber which enclosed both the boiler and condensing surface. Variable temperature cooling water was utilized to control the heat flux. A thin film resistance thermometer was constructed to obtain the average surface temperature of the condensing surface. Inability to obtain linear and repeatable calibration data with this thermometer resulted in its being discarded. An intrinsic thermocouple was used in lieu of of the thin film resistance thermometer.
