| dc.description.abstract | This thesis provides an analysis of policy changes directed by the Secretary of the Navy and Commander, Navy Supply Systems Command which have altered the method of transporting spare parts to overseas locations. In particular, an analysis is provided of the affect of resupplying spare parts by surface transportation that had previously been transported by air. The increase in time between air and surface transport required to move these materials is expected to result in the need for increased inventory levels to maintain the authorized protection. This thesis identifies the changes in protection levels needed to maintain an established level of support and attempts to identify the costs incurred in doing so. Analysis focuses on secondary item inventories for Intermediate Maintenance Activity (IMA) support which are maintained by the Naval Air Station (NAS) Rota Spain Supply Department. | en_US |
