Abstract
This paper reviews the problems involved in the location of a non-cooperative transmitter in the 10 kc/s to 550 kc/s range. The information is presented in simplified form for easier understanding by nontechnical personnel. Formulas and references are given for the engineer's use. The paper covers propagation characteristics, theoretical methods of radio location, and practical radio direction finder systems now in use or that may be used. An evaluation of the advantages and disadvantages of most of the practical systems is given.
