Abstract
This thesis presents a state space approach to optimal estimation of channel processes, such
as inphase, quadrature, square envelope, phase, etc., of wireless fading channels. The models
are derived from the Doppler power spectral density using factorization and realization
techniques. Several simulations are performed when the channel is Rayleigh and Ricean distributed
under both flat and frequency-selective fading assumptions. The simulation studies
illustrate the tracking properties of the inphase, quadrature and square envelope estimators
for various received signal-to-noise ratios.
