Abstract
An analysis based primarily on computations is conducted to determine errors in a oombing system similar to that currently under test and development by the Marine Corps. There are many parameters in the system determining point of impact. Included are point of release and velocity at that point, air density, the mass and drag coefficient of the bomb, its cross sectional area, and the wind structure. Most values are not known with the desired accuracy but must be estimated, say, from radar measurements, for position. This study estimates as much as possible the error in predicting the point of impact as a consequence of such factors as random uncorrelated noise in the radar measurements, errors in estimating density, errors in the wind structure, and errors due to initial conditions.
