Abstract
Two approaches to digital data filtering; namely polynomial and band pass, are compared at a basic conceptual level. Methods for construction of each type are presented. The problem of aliasing is discussed. Some numerical work is presented in which six filters of each type are applied to torpedo track data supplied by NUWES.
