| dc.description.abstract | The complications involved in maintaining at least five diverse inventories from five different countries is a gigantic task for the Pakistan Navy. This task can be considerably eased by the introduction of a forward looking and a scientific inventory management approach to systemize the Pakistan Navy's inventory management requirements. This thesis offers a simplified version of the consumable inventory model used by the United States Navy inventory system with modifications to make it appropriate for the Naval Stores Depot of the Pakistan Navy. Emphasis has been placed on minimizing the sum of the average annual costs of ordering, carrying, and shortages. The procedures for determining the optimal order size and reorder point for an item are provided along with the steps for implementing the model. | |
