Abstract
Development of new engineering equipment is more often
then not impeded by lack of suitable material with physical
properties capable of fulfilling the rigid requirements im- .
posed by the new advanced designs. The construction of power
equipment, in particular, would benefit greatly if new alloys
were made available that would allow the use of higher
temperatures and yet retain their strength and creep resistance
under high stresses. This challenge has not gone unheeded for great strides
have been made in recent years in developing heat and creep
resisting alloys, but mainly by the tedious process of "trial
and error". A knowledge of the basic facts underlying the
phenomena of creep would offer a means by which a more positive
and direct approach could be made.
