Abstract
A practical solution to the problem of realizing a signal transmission method for a secure voice communications system on an aircraft carrier flight-deck was the objective of this investigation. By using a very low frequency, less than 100 KHZ, and small coils, radiation was minimized. The resultant device was an audio transceiver MODEM in which narrow-band frequency modulation was applied at a carrier frequency of 50 KHZ by a voice signal bandlimited from 300 HZ to 3 KHZ to enable application of the communications scheme. The system was demonstrated by building a portion of a complete system on a simulated steel flight-deck.
