Abstract
This case study is inspired by events that the author experienced during his time as a Midshipman at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) while participating in the Northern Tier summer training evolution. The case study is intended as an instructional tool for Midshipmen at USNA on the topics of crisis leadership and psychological preparation for leadership in life and death situations. The narrative is broken into three parts: Parts A, B, and C. Names are changed and changes in the narrative have been made to better convey points in an instructional environment. The Instructor Notes section includes Learning Objectives and Discussion Questions for use in facilitating group discussion. A Case Analysis section using frameworks from current academic theories of crisis leadership, psychological preparation for crisis, and Post-Traumatic Growth is included separately from the narrative in order to reinforce and expand on the themes introduced in the Instructor Notes.
