Abstract
On May 31, San Francisco-based Times cybersecurity correspondent Sheera Frenkel moderated a discussion with Times journalist Rukmini Callimachi, who recounts her monthslong experience as it unfolded in her audio series “Caliphate.” They were joined by Andy Mills, who accompanied Callimachi on one trip to Iraq — where they were embedded with troops, slept on the roofs of abandoned buildings, searched for and uncovered invaluable ISIS documents — and by expert Mohammed M. Hafez, a specialist in Islamist movements and political violence who chairs the National Security Affairs Department of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif. Prof. Hafez joins the panel at 38:52.
