NPS NRP Executive Summary
There are currently no ranges or training areas that can replicate possible Electronic Warfare (EW) threats or challenges that ground-based small units are expected to encounter in the contested electromagnetic spectrum environment (EMSE). Published guidance from across the Marine Corps and Army cite the challenges of implementing an effective EW range, but there is a lack of concrete solutions or plans for how to do so. Marine Corps Training and Education Command (TECOM) understands and currently prioritizes the need to build an effective EW range to support current training objectives. In this research, clarifying critical training standards enabled the establishment of minimum requirements an EW range must meet. Using EW simulations, software defined radios, and the Live, Virtual, and Constructive Tactical Environments (LVC-TE), the work identified that a solution is feasible to meet the limited objectives outlined by TECOM. This research suggests that the capabilities of enemy EW assets and their associated capabilities can be replicated within the LVC-TE, supporting the development of forces capable of operating in a congested, contested, and constrained EMSE.
