Abstract
The purpose of the thesis is two-fold. First, the scientific basis of inventory management decision-making is investigated through the use of mathematical models. In particular, the traditional questions posed in any retail operation of "When do I order?", and "How much do I order?" will be answered by means of a thorough analysis of the Reorder Point formula and the Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) Concept. Second, an extremely useful but little known device for inventory managers called the Optimal Policy Curve will be developed, and its applicability to the Navy Exchange Program investigated.
