Abstract
The wind stress calculated from wind velocities measured during the Mixed Layer Experiment (MILE) was used as input to a one-dimensional wind-driven current model. These model results are compared with observed currents from the MILE-1 buoy, showing a qualitative agreement. MILE was an examination of the upper ocean carried out near Ocean Weather Station Papa during a 20-day period, August and September of 1977, which was characterized by two major wind events. The observed currents have been analyzed to obtain information about their behaviour that could be used in the tuning of the model. For a simulation of the entire period the results are considered only satisfactory.
