Abstract
It has been noted that, on occasion, certain standard industrial heat exchanger equipment, when used in the presence of operating machinery and consequently subjected to sympathetic vibrations, performed beyond expectations and was labeled over designed. It seems reasonable to hypothesize that vibration has increased fluid turbulence near the surface, a primary factor in the transfer of heat by convection.
