A history of sealift and force sustainment operations during the Somalia intervention (1992-1994)

Abstract

Military strategists expect U.S. forces to be involved in an increasing number of regional contingency operations of the sort conducted in Somalia from 1992 until 1994. The success of such large-scale humanitarian missions hinges on effective logistical operations, especially sealift. Planners of future missions, therefore, would greatly profit from the study of maritime operations during the intervention in Somalia. This thesis thus provides a thorough chronology of events surrounding seaport operations at Mogadishu, Somalia. The work furthermore analyzes related logistical issues and problems in order to identify lessons learned from the expedition.
